Lord Glasman, the founder of the ‘Blue Labour’ philosophy and leading commentator on community organisation, will this evening make a set-peice speech at the local government think-tank Localis, entitled ‘Blue Labour and the Politics of Place’.

In his address Maurice Glasman will explore the challenges to local communities and civic identity posed by globalisation. He will outline his views on the previous government’s record in office, the Coalition’s Big Society agenda, and where the Labour leadership may seek to position the party in the coming years. Covering issues of great contemporary debate such as worker representation on corporate boards, Lord Glasman will set out a vision for a more responsible, locally-focused capitalism.

Alex Thomson, Chief Executive of Localis said:

We are delighted to be hosting Lord Glasman here at Localis. We are looking forward to his insight and valued opinion on the future of community engagement and how Labour will shape its response to the Big Society agenda.

With localism, and in particular the question of how best to devolve powers into the hands of local communities, at the forefront of the current political debate, Lord Glasman’s speech could not be more timely. Delivering more effective, user-targeted public services requires new and innovative approaches to community engagement and we hope that this event will widen the scope of the current debate on how best to achieve this.”

A more comprehensive press release, including quotes from Lord Glasman’s speech, will be issued on Friday 10th February

‘Blue Labour and the Politics of Place’ will be available on Localis’ website www.localis.org.uk
