Localis, in partnership with BLP Managed Legal Service, held a roundtable discussion on Tuesday 13th December entitled ‘Is the Localism Act a lawyers’ charter?’ at our offices in Westminster. The roundtable discussion explored various potential legal challenges thrown up by the Localism Act including the implications of the General Power of Competence, reforms of the planning system, changes to predetermination rules, the new community rights to buy assets and challenge councils to take over the provision of services, and how the bill may interact with existing laws – including those deriving from the EU.
