The head of the staff-owned training company Prospects, has urged the Government to spread the ‘John Lewis effect’, and increase the number of mutuals.
Speaking after the publication of a new report on staff ownership by Graeme Nuttall, Prospects’ executive chair, Ray Auvray, welcomed plans to create an institute to advise companies on transferring to mutual status.
‘Along with the recent report of the Mutuals Taskforce, the Nuttall review gives ministers the ideal springboard for making employee mutuals a mainstream option for employers in the public and the private sectors,’ said Mr Auvray.
‘Both reports confirm the power of employee ownership to transform organisations’ efficiency and service quality and we urge ministers to move forward with the Nuttall review’s recommendations without delay.’
Prospects produced a paper for the review, Knowingly undersold ? how government can spread the John Lewis effect.
Following publication of the Nuttall report last week, deputy prime minister Nick Clegg announced the Government would set up the institute and make employee ownership more commonplace.
‘Not everyone wants to set up their own company,’ said Mr Clegg. ‘But we all know we could. We all know someone else who has.’
