Pilot themes are detailed

The final list of themes for each of the 13 Total Place pilots has been confirmed by the Departure for Communities & Local Government.
The 13 will examine the totality of public spending in a range of different service areas with a view to cutting duplication, saving money and improving service delivery.
Each area’s specialist themes are largely the same as those revealed by LGC last month (LGC, 16 July) with a few notable additions.
The Central Bedfordshire and Luton pilot will look at guidance and support for those affected by critical life events such as becoming disabled or unemployed or victims of crime.
The Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire partnership will investigate the educational outcomes and experiences of children and carers while the Manchester City Region will look at the life experiences of children under the age of five years old in the most deprived areas.
Communities secretary John Denham sent a joint open letter to council leaders in the pilot areas signed by chief secretary to the Treasury Liam Byrne and Local Government Association deputy chairman David Parsons (Con), urging them to ?push at an open door? for reform.
?This is part of a much bigger drive to make sure money is being spent where communities want,? he said. ?It’s potentially a chance to rewrite the future of public services.?
