‘Muzzling the jaws of doom: can innovation give social care a sustainable future?’
In conjunction with PA Consulting, Localis will be hosting a private round table discussion in London with council leaders and chief executives, senior civil servants and LEP chairs and chief executives that will address how we sustain social care services.
The structure of society is changing, and the population is ageing. By 2030 there will be 2.5 times as many people over 85 in the UK than in 2010, while we are likely to face a 40% increase in the number of people with dementia in the next 12 years. Adult Social Care already accounts for over half of many local authorities’ budgets, and a funding gap of 4.3bn is predicted by 2020. Care for chronic conditions currently absorbs 70% of the NHS budget.
How can the future be secured? If local authorities are to sustain the levels and quality of service required of them in coming years, they have to start working differently ? perhaps radically differently. Can innovation offer the solution?
This round table event will seek to bring together senior executives from across central and local government to consider these vital issues. The discussion will be structured around the following questions:
-
What does the future for social care look like post-election?
-
How much has social care delivery changed in the last few years?
-
What is the scope for more innovation in social care? Are barriers preventing the take-up of innovative methods?
This event will be held in London on Tuesday 15th September. If you would be interested in hearing more about this event, please contact Jack Airey on jack.airey@localis.org.uk.
