Home truths: national housing policy isn’t working – time for a more local approach?

The UK is in the midst of a housing crisis. A lack of affordable housing has resulted in many families being unable to afford to buy their first home and many are spending a large proportion of their incomes on rent. Not for lack of trying, local authorities across the country are failing to respond to this crisis, often because they are constrained to do so. With this in mind, is a nationwide, one size fits all approach to housing policy delivering? Is it now time to consider a more local approach with less central control?

This roundtable, one of three as part of a research project on housing market variability in association with Lloyds Banking Group, will consider these questions. Discussion will focus on the challenges facing the South East of England in relation to housing and what a suitable response to this might be.

Taking place in Andover, the event will be held on Thursday 7th July. If you would be interested in hearing more about this event, please contact dominic.leigh@localis.org.uk.
