Barnet LBC is proposing to place half its budget in the hands of residents, reveals a report setting out the latest stage in its groundbreaking plans to personalise all council services.
As part of an attempt to redefine the council’s relationship with residents, Barnet has published a list giving differing levels of service that residents can choose from in a series of areas.
The report, due to be discussed at a cabinet meeting tonight, says that consultants PriceWaterhouse Coopers concluded it would be possible to increase the 5% the council currently spends through personalised budgets to 50%.
Services listed as having “scope to be personalised in the future” range from waste collection and parking to giving communities financial control over libraries and sports and leisure services.
