Councils surpass efficiency targets

Local government has surpassed its efficiency savings targets after recording 1.76bn worth of value for money savings for 2008-09, communities secretary John Denham has announced.
Mr Denham welcomed the ?substantial progress? made by local government but urged councils to continue to re-think service delivery to further improve efficiency.
