Councils turn to sponsors for cash

Localis points out that local authorities are becoming more entrepreneurial at a time of unprecedented financial challenge, as the FT investigates how councils are increasingly looking towards corporate sponsorship for income.

It may not be on the scale of the O2 Arena or EDF Energy London Eye, but across the country councils are looking for ways to find corporate sponsors for buildings, parks, museums and events in an attempt to counter the impact of deep spending cuts.

The diverse examples include Leeds taking advertising on the payslips of its 30,000 employees or Guildford allowing ?corporate events and promotions? at its galleries and museums…
