Author: Local Government Chronicle |
New regional strategies might have to place a greater emphasis on economic development as a result of the recession, experts have said.
Guidance on the drafting of the strategies, which will amalgamate the current regional spatial and economic strategies, was published by the Departments for Communities & Local Government and for Business, Innovation & Skills.
Regional Development Agencies and council leaders’ boards will also be expected to place a significant emphasis on climate change when drafting the strategies.
The proposals appear to allay local government fears that ministers would be overly prescriptive in the strategies’ contents.
The document explicitly stated that government ?does not want to prescribe a specific model for what regional strategies should look like?.
