Localis, the leading independent think tank dedicated to the issues related to localism and local government, has appointed Alex Thomson as its new Chief Executive.
Alex Thomson has a strong track record as a policy maker both in government and in opposition, most recently working as the Conservative Party’s specialist policy adviser for decentralisation and local government, leading on the development of the Party’s policies on local government, housing and planning.
Alex Thomson said: ‘I am delighted to be joining Localis at such a tremendously exciting time. With a new government that is committed to decentralising power, Localis has an excellent opportunity to help lead the debate around local government and localism in the months and years ahead. I look forward to working with the team to ensure that Localis continues to influence the development and implementation of localism policy by focusing on producing high quality and ground-breaking research, events and seminars.’
Sir Merrick Cockell, Chairman of the Board of Localis said ‘I am very pleased that Alex has agreed to become the Chief Executive of Localis. Localis has been a vigorous and effective advocate for decentralising power and is perfectly placed to take a key role in the future localism policy debate. I am confident that Alex will be able to build on the progress that has already been made, and shape the policy agenda for years to come.’
Alex will be starting in his role on Monday 16th August.
Alex Thomson will be available for interview from the 16th August on 020 7340 2660
