Vince Cable said people would be in favour of building over golf courses to help solve the housing crisis.
The Business Secretary quoted research showing a larger area of Surrey was devoted to golf courses than to houses.
Mr Cable said that if he was in a middle-income family struggling to find a home in Surrey, ‘I would ask myself is a golf course sacred or are there better uses of the land?’.
