Reaction: Councils call for ‘fundamental’ public sector reform

Alex Thomson’s comment on the Chancellor’s latest Budget is below.
Chief executive of thinktank Localis, Alex Thomson, said: ‘It is unfortunate but not surprising to hear that, notwithstanding the welcome cash for road repairs, austerity is set to continue for local government.
‘There remain plenty more hard decisions ahead for councils but I am looking forward to seeing the detail of the housing announcements, in particular the prospectus for new local authority-led garden cities.’
