Manifestos shows that devolution is here to stay, says Localis think tank.

Responding to the publication of each major parties’ manifestos, Alex Thomson, Chief Executive of Localis, the leading local government think tank, said:

With the devolution of power to councils and communities across the UK forming a prominent theme in each of the major parties’ manifestos, it is evident that putting power in the hands of local people will be a key feature of the next parliament, whoever is in government. This is a hugely welcome development. Recent history makes it abundantly clear that Westminster doesn’t have all the answers. Rather, the closer decisions are made to the people they effect, the better those decisions are.

“With pressure on government expenditure unlikely to abate any time soon, devolution can help drive maximum value for every tax payer pound. Localis has been championing the devolution agenda for over a decade, so we are delighted that the future for cities, counties and their residents looks so bright.
